Glass Animals with Eyedress
Glass Animals was another show that I was really looking forward to seeing. (See my KALEO post.) I have been a fan since the beginning. I feel like the last time that they came to San Diego was almost 10 years ago when I was in grad school, but I would have to check that. They are another band that has a unique sound. Even though there are plenty of indie electronic bands, and I like a lot of them, I feel Glass Animals are on a different level than most.
Besides really liking their music, I was excited to go with basically all of my really good friends here in San Diego:
T. who I have known since moving to San Diego and I would consider my best friend in SD. She is probably the one person that is most tapped into the metaphysical but not in any fake way. (My motherfucking bestie lives in NY.)
M., who is my concert going buddy. I can almost always count on her to want to go to a show. We bonded over some pretty traumatic situations, that were both very similar to each other’s. Both T. and M. I have worked with, at different jobs. Both are cat ladies. T. has one cat; I have two plus two outside cats; and Miranda has EIGHT cats!!
H. who is become a good friend over the past few years. She was one of my Pilates clients. She is a crazy dog lady, with three dogs, and I have one. I get along well with her husband, as well. I hang out with the both of them and never feel like the third wheel or awkward.
This show was at the Amphitheatre in Chula Vista. Another outdoor venue in San Diego. When I asked M. if she wanted to go, she had already gotten tickets for the lawn. When I asked T. to go, she agreed. I wanted to get seats up close, but she wanted the lawn, as well. I’m not sure why I let her talk me into it. Probably because it was cheaper. Her logic was that we could walk around and socialize, talk to different people. It didn’t occur to me when she presented this argument that she is socially awkward and would be fine not talking to anyone for days. We were on the lawn, thus far away.
Glass Animals did a killer show and brought the energy. Their stage was set up as a spaceship and they had great graphics going on behind them. I feel like they are total nerds in the best way possible with the themes of their albums. They played a lot of their hits and a bunch of songs off the new album, I Love You So F***ing Much. I was singing along and dancing to every song. Gooey, Heatwaves, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, etc. But I was upset they didn’t play Tangerine or I Don’t Wanna Talk (I Just Wanna Dance), as I love both of those songs, as well.
From the new album, Creatures in Heaven, Wonderful Nothing, A Tear in Space (Airlock), How I Learned to Love The Bomb, and Lost in the Ocean. How I Learned to Love The Bomb is probably one of my favorite songs from this album. It was really cool that they performed it.
I would really like to see them again, with better seats or spot next time. My friend H. she didn’t really know who they were, and she really enjoyed Glass Animals. (She doesn’t know a lot about music. It’s totally weird, but I love her.) If you have the chance, they are a band to see.
We got there just as the opening band was finishing up. I have nothing to add about them.
